Artize Black Series Catalogue

Mastered the most difficult colour in print - Black

Objectives

Design a bold, unconventional catalogue to showcase Artize’s exclusive black range of bath products. The objective was not just to display products, but to celebrate black as a design statement, capturing its depth, drama, and luxury through a visually striking catalogue experience.

Challenges

The catalogue was envisioned as black on black with products printed on black paper using silhouette-led layouts.

This posed multiple challenges:-

- Black-on-black printing is one of the most complex tasks in print design, often resulting in loss of detail, texture, and depth.

- Subtle variations in black surfaces can disappear without precise lighting, grading, and paper selection.

- Maintaining product clarity while retaining the mystery and elegance of silhouettes required absolute control over contrast and composition.

Strategy

We approached the catalogue as a design experiment. Each page was treated as a canvas, using silhouettes, controlled highlights, and minimal light play to reveal form without fully revealing the product. The layout remained deliberately restrained, allowing negative space, shadow, and tone-on-tone contrasts to do the storytelling.

Result:-

The catalogue transformed Jaquar’s black range into a powerful design statement, elevating products into objects of desire. The silhouette-led, monochromatic approach helped Jaquar differentiate itself in a crowded market, earning praise for both creative audacity and technical execution.
